WhatsApp: +86 18203695377Although it's incredibly important to the politics of "Game of Thrones," there's a major location we have yet to see in the HBO show: Casterly Rock. The seat of House Lannister, Casterly Rock was referred to by Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) as the true seat of power in Westeros. The Lannister homestead is the site of Lannister wealth, and House Lannister has been lending all kinds ...
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377261 Posted September 3, 2014 Gold Mines, lots and lots of gold mines in the west. Casterly Rock is on top of a Gold Mine, Castamere was a gold mine. Matter of fact I think it states that the majority of the gold mines in Westeros reside in the Westerlands. aryagonnakill#2 Members Posted September 3, 2014
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377The gold of the west has traveled far, and the maesters know there are no mines in all the world as rich as those of Casterly Rock. We unfortunately have no information on how much gold Casterly Rock produces, but the best gold mine in our world, the Grasberg Gold Mine in Indonesia, produces roughly 2 million ounces of gold per year.

WhatsApp: +86 18203695377Mr Smith Gender:Male Location:Australia Members 574 Posted May 5, 2014 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember nothing in the book that suggests the mines under Casterly Rock were running dry. Probably not a terrible change to make, and a nice metaphor for the eventual disintegration of Lannister power, but a radical change none the less.
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377There is no strategic value. It's the gold that's in it. There is so much gold in that mountain that it has been mined for thousands of years and still hasn't run out of gold. The Rock is literally famous even in the Slave Cities, and maybe even Yi Ti. Whoever holds Casterly Rock has access to the best gold mines, arguably, in the whole of ...

For something truly extreme, Tyrion leads a dragon attack on Casterly Rock during which he uses his knowledge of the sewers and tunnels to direct the heat and fire through the very foundations of the bluff/castle. The structure is weakened and collapses, perhaps plummeting into the ocean.
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377What if there are no gold mines underneath Casterly Rock. In today's episode Tywin mentions this to Cersei that the last working mine ran dry 3 yrs ago. Was this mentioned in the books? I don't seem to recollect reading this interaction. This thread is archived New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast 226 376 376 comments Best
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377GRRM's New NotABlog Post on Casterly Rock. Recently (December 23, 2022), ... Me pet theory until we see otherwise is that those mines have been tapped out and empty of gold for a few generations now and the family lives on collected taxes and their reputation/perceived wealth. George gives us a taste/hint of this with Xaro's empty vault in Qarth.
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377Casterly Rock has been occupied long enough that it's no longer viable as a mine. Frankly Casterly Rock's mines probably went dry long before even Aegon's Conquest. I have a personal theory that there is a store of gold the Lannisters keep locked as a wellspring of money they occasionally tap.
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377In the books the Crown actually has the money to pay both the payments of the Faith and the Iron Bank. Cersei makes the horrendous decision that both can wait as she wants to build a new Royal navy. It is a sign of her growing arrogance that she thinks she can get away with it, not lack of funds in the West.

Start by taking Lannisport and cutting off all supplies to Casterly Rock by having your fleet besiege it by sea, this way will take time, but in time it would be forced to surrender.

While much garnet is heavily included, gemgrade material can be found and faceted to create beautiful stones with a deep hue.
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377THEY ARE LANNISTERS OF CASTERLY ROCK. Sons of his father. They would NEVER let Casterly Rock, the visible head of House Lannister's power fall. And as Tywin did, they would NEVER let the realm know the mines have run out cause they would lose a great deal of respect and ability to command respect and loyalty.
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377House Lannister is one of the Great Houses of Westeros. Their lands are in the far west of the continent. Their seat is Casterly Rock, a castle on a rocky promontory overlooking the Sunset Sea. It overlooks the thriving city of Lannisport and sits atop the most productive gold mine in the Westerlands. WhatsApp: +86 18203695377The Lannister's mines close to Casterly Rock are rich in gold, but so are/were the mines of Castamere, Golden Tooth, and a few other places. The Iron Islands are rich in iron (hence the name), but the natives believe most of the mining of it should be left on thralls. KermitMudmaven • 8 yr. ago Yeah, its the smallfolk who do the actual mining.
WhatsApp: +86 18203695377In a major change from the book, Tywin Lannister confided to Cersei in Season 4 that Casterly Rock's gold mines had run dry, relying on the Iron Bank of Braavos to fund their wars. This seemed like a major revelation, one that threatened the power base of the Lannisters and imperiled their dynasty. Instead, this detail faded into the background.

WhatsApp: +86 18203695377So, I was reading a fic, like, a month ago, and there was this plot point in which Casterly Rock falls and is occupied for a while. For all we know, there is still a thousand yearsworth of gold in Casterly Rock.
